Letter from the Tu Tu of Kuangtung to Chinese emigrants

abroad.

To provide men of talent required by the Republic

we must have a proper system of education. Those of us interested therefore propose to establish a University of Kuangtung. The nucleus of a fund for this object will be supplied by the Provincial Government in the shape of a contribution of $100,000. But very much more than that is required to carry out our plans and, knowing the patriotism and liberality of you Chinese gentlemen who dwell ir foreign countries, I am availing myself of the opportunity of ir. Liao T'ao going abroad to study banking methods to appeal to you, I hope not in vain, by letter entrusted to his hands for your hearty support in this matter.
